Traditional African Art is full of colour, mystery and ethereal human figures. Characteristics of African Art are known to include the palettes of the landscape and the flawless youth and virility of the African continent's people. These traits are all elemental in modern African art and media like paintings and sculptures are indwelt with the rich heritage of the continent.

MAASAI RED AND MAN WITH DREADLOCKS
A brand new modern African Art Series by Clarise du Plessis Art. Drawing on the elements of traditional African Art, this series depicts the wonders of the African continent through the faces of those who call it home. The first painting in this series is complete, Maasai Red. In this series I use neutral colours with a touch of the vibrant hues found in nature. Inspiration drawn from God's own palette, from ruddy earth tones to the misty blues of the Indian ocean and forest greens, you can look forward to more works that transport you to the African savannah.
Sculptures are beings, made to be stared at unapologetically. They are like earth made into a shape so that the soil can see and hear and be in another form. The Angels Of Origin series by Clarise du Plessis Art portrays just that; form created from the mire, just as The Great Creator once formed everything around and including us. If only I could sculpt like Him.
OF LIGHT AND COLOUR PAINTING SERIES
There is a first for everything, and this series, the bold brush strokes and bright pop art colours are a wonderful introduction for many more to come. Every painting is a character and has their own persona. Each one created around who they are in an ethereal real of African storytelling. The colours used in this series were carefully chosen and often mixed to a special hue that you wouldn't find in any art shop in order to bring out the best and brightest parts of each colour. A lot of time is spent with the palettes to make sure that the colours marry into each other and present perfectly.
Portraits and faces, expressions and emotion, the story each one tells is so special. Future series may be in more neutral tones as those colours are close to my heart. I love the veld and its colours, forest palettes and soft ocean hues that transport you to a different place and time, somewhere in the great outdoors, and leave you with a kind of holiday nostalgia.
